Sam Walkley writes about his second visit to Kidwells

"Upon arrival at Kidwells, I was immediately welcomed again and remembered from my previous visit. I appreciated the organisation and structure for my day ahead that was given to me. The itinerary had my name on and the date that I would be visiting, so I felt that time was taken in order to ensure I got the most out of my day there. I then went and worked in the Employment department. As usual, the place was energetic and, despite it being a miserable Monday morning, everybody was hard at work. The professionalism of the firm is clear. Sarah was a great help and although I had no previous experience in employment law, she explained things very well and I understood matters. She set me tasks and had me reading over the matters she was working on. I had several suggestions which, to be honest, I thought would be politely dismissed, but I was encouraged and pleased to see that Sarah took these suggestions on board. I felt quite valued from that and it gave me a confidence boost in my own ability.

[Michael] showed sincere interest in my studies and how I was getting on with them. He gave me genuine encouragement, which I was thankful for. Once more, I was nothing but impressed with Michael's professionalism and dynamism regarding the law. He's a very good role model for a young future solicitor like myself. Despite being clearly very good at his job, I like how Michael is not full of self-importance. This applies to all the staff at Kidwells though. I have been to some of the biggest firms in Birmingham and have been disappointed with the arrogance of some firms, right down to the secretary's first greeting. I sometimes felt like I was a burden on their time at other firms but, at all times, at Kidwells I felt valued, respected and a source of genuine interest.

After lunch, I worked in the Family department. Again, despite having no previous experience in family law, Jo explained things clearly and succinctly and gave me clear instructions. I read through quite an emotional case which gave me insight into the other aspects of law that you do not really learn about at University. Jo set me a task to find some paperwork that she needed and I was very disappointed not to have found it by the time I had to leave. To make matters worse, Helene and Laura instantly found what Jo needed, although this undoubtedly says more about the efficiency of Helene and Laura than what it does about me.

Again, I have no negative feedback. I am really trying to find constructive criticism but I enjoy every minute of my time at Kidwells and feel pleased with my day each time I leave. I always look forward to when I next return as I know I am always welcomed as if I was one of their own".
